Particle Size Analysis
The particle size analyser is a 3000S with
on line autotitrator. This
instrument
allows measurement of both particle size in the range 2 nm to
3 μm and zeta
potential in the
range 5 nm to 30 μm. Knowledge of the parameters of zeta
potential and
particle size is a
powerful research and development tool for investigating the
stability
of dispersions and
emulsions. Zeta potential is a measure of the magnitude of the
repulsion or
attraction between particles. Its measurement can provide
detailed insight
into the dispersion
mechanism and is the key to electrostatic dispersion control.
The
zeta potential of a
dispersion or emulsion is one of the major parameters that
control
dispersion
stability. Monitoring this parameter can shorten product
formulation times,
identify the mechanisms responsible for a
dispersion’s stability and enable optimisation
of .occulation. The
measurement
of particle size is an extremely important technique
in many industrial processes. The stability, chemical
reactivity, opacity, viscosity and
material
strength of many materials are affected by the size and
characteristics of the
particles
within them.
